By 2050, our campus will be carbon neutral. This is our pledge. But no one is waiting until then for change. read more…

Our Environmental Studies programs help you to develop your sense and vision of nature, explore the world's natural communities, and gain a greater understanding of the issues and challenges we all face as inhabitants of one small planet.

We offer three majors to help you share your passions and build your strengths. If you want to become an agent of change in your community, organization or corporation, consider our three-year program in Community-Based Sustainability. If you are looking for a more scientific approach to environmental issues, the Environmental Science program is the right fit for you. And, if your environmental interests are more interdisciplinary, you will feel at home in the Environmental Studies major.

All of our programs feature a professional focus and provide you with the skills to move directly from college into the work force or towards advance studies in law or any number of graduate fields. Our Environmental Studies Department has been recognized with substantial support from the National Science Foundation, allowing us to continuously expand the learning and research opportunities available to you. Nationally, only three percent of Environmental Studies programs are as interdisciplinary as our programs at Colby-Sawyer College.
