Colby-Sawyer College Community Members Recognized for Leadership, Service at N.H. Campus Compact Awards Ceremony
NEW LONDON, N.H. - On Tuesday, April 10, Campus Compact for New Hampshire's 9th Annual Presidents' Award Luncheon recognized Colby-Sawyer's eco-representatives, Sustainability Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Jennifer White, and the community's Friendship Families for their outstanding public service.
Colby-Sawyer's eco-representatives (eco-reps) received the President's Leadership Award, which acknowledges a student or student organization that provide outstanding community service on their campus, demonstrating a breadth and depth of involvement in a social issue. The eco-reps, students Bonita Basnyat, Pooja Byanjankar, Victoria Dake, Lynne Dionne, Lily Gibbons, Sarina Karmacharya, Amigo Khadka, Anuj Lamichhane, Phurchhoki Sherpa, Bibek Thapa, and Vigil Yu, have dedicated much time to providing energy audits, managing recyclables in residence halls, and developing outreach materials to promote sustainability on campus.
The President's Good Steward Award, recognizing faculty, administrators, or staff members who have created and strived towards a vision while demonstrating commitment towards student and community voice, was given to Jennifer White. As both assistant professor of Environmental Studies and Colby-Sawyer's first ever sustainability coordinator, overseeing the campus' GreenROUTES initiatives, White has inspired a campus-wide commitment to the livability and sustainability of the environment on a local and global scale.
Colby-Sawyer's Friendship Families were honored with the President's Community Partner Award for nonprofit organizations that have enhanced the community's quality of life in a meaningful way through a sustained engagement with the college. The Friendship Families are a group of faculty, staff, and community members who welcome and host Colby-Sawyer's international students. With the international student population growing from fewer than 10 to 100 since 2006, the number of Friendship Families has grown to 80 to ensure their accommodation and comfort.
Campus Compact for New Hampshire (CCNH), a statewide consortium of college and university presidents dedicated to advancing the civic purposes of higher education, sponsored the awards ceremony, which honored 24 campuses and their community partners. CCNH is a member of the national Campus Compact organization, which encompasses more than 1,100 college and university presidents representing some 6 million students.
