Dear Parents and Families,

This afternoon, the Baird Health & Counseling Center was notified that a "weak positive" has been identified as part of this week’s round of randomly selected pooled COVID-19 testing. A “weak positive” could prove to be a false positive, or it may also mean that an individual is in the early stages of COVID-19 infection.

The college is requiring that all 32 individuals within the referenced pool quarantine until individual testing produces a negative result. Individual testing for those within the referenced pool has been made available at New London Hospital, and those involved have also been notified of alternate testing locations.

The college made the decision to shift to pooled testing last month based on the results of individual testing administered as part of the move-in process, as well as the low incidence of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the surrounding area. Randomly selected pooled testing will continue throughout the semester.

It is important for all members of the Colby-Sawyer community to continue to follow college policies regarding COVID-19, including requirements on physical distancing and the proper use of face masks.

The college encourages those who are interested to monitor its Campus Testing Results webpage, which is updated regularly. Please direct any questions or concerns to pspear@colby-sawyer.edu
