COVID-19 Policies

Though policies related to COVID-19 continue to evolve, the following policies are in place for fall, 2021. Please understand that the situation surrounding COVID-19 remains fluid and policies may be changed as warranted.

All students, faculty and staff must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Vaccinations against COVID-19 have shown to be both safe and effective as they nearly eliminate the risk of serious illness or death in infected individuals. Additionally, this requirement allows the college to begin to return to more typical practice, as outlined below.

Students should see the Student COVID-19 Vaccine Policy for more complete information.  College employees will find the employee COVID-19 vaccine policy at myHR

Face Masks

Masks are not required for individuals who are fully vaccinated except in indoor locations where the occupancy exceeds 50 people or in a group of any size that includes individuals from outside the college community. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear face masks in accordance with the COVID-19 Mask Protocols & Policies.

Individuals should have face masks in their possession at all times. Individual professors or departments may require mask use in their classrooms or offices.

Colby-Sawyer will conduct ongoing surveillance testing of employees and on-campus residents. Tests are done through Clinical Research Sequencing Platform, LLC, owned by BROAD Institute, Inc. Results will be received in 24-48 hours. Students selected to be part of the surveillance testing pool are required to participate. Failure to do so may result in loss of housing.

Baird Health and Counseling Center will communicate with students via college email regarding scheduled testing dates, positive test results and/or potential exposure which may require isolation or quarantine. Please visit the Quarantine, Isolation and Positive COVID-19 Cases.

Daily Wellness Checks

Unvaccinated students, employees, visitors and guests who are on campus are required to:

  • Take their temperature each day to ensure they do not have a fever above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Answer the college’s health screening questions before entering campus. Students and employees should use the college’s Daily Wellness Log. Visitors and guests should report to the Campus Safety office or Colgate reception desk upon arrival and complete a wellness check.
  • Refrain from coming to campus or, if residing on campus, leaving their room, unless cleared to do so, if they have a temperature above 100 degrees Fahrenheit or answer “yes” to any of the health screening questions.

The college will monitor information obtained through the Daily Wellness Log to gauge the amount of illness on campus and check in with students, faculty and staff who report experiencing symptoms.

Students, employees, visitors and guests of the college who are fully vaccinated will not be required to complete a Daily Wellness Log. The expectation remains that individuals with a temperature greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit or those experiencing symptoms of illness refrain from coming to campus or leaving their residence rooms while symptoms exist. In addition, individuals who have had close contact with a person confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 without the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, or those who have recently traveled internationally must notify the college. Students should email and employees should contact Human Resources prior to their arrival on campus.

Social/Physical Distancing

Because of the college’s vaccine policy, social/physical distancing requirements will no longer be in place. Residence hall, college house and administrative building occupancy will return to pre-COVID numbers.

Guests and Visitors

Non-student guests will be allowed in the residence halls and college houses as long as they are vaccinated and masked. Proof of vaccination will be required when the non-student guest completes the regular registration process with Campus Safety.

Visitors to Colby-Sawyer will be allowed on campus. If they are not vaccinated, they may not enter residence halls or college houses, and they must wear masks when they enter other campus buildings.

Community members using Hogan and the library will be required to show proof of vaccination.

Colby-Sawyer community members (faculty, staff, and students) with approved vaccine exemptions and vaccinated Admissions tour guests are permitted to eat in the dining hall and the Lodge and must wear masks when they are not actively eating or drinking. Other guests or visitors who use the dining room or Lodge will be required to show proof of vaccination.

Please see the Visitors, Guests & Travel Policy — Fall, 2021 for full information.

Hand Hygiene

While the risk of spreading COVID-19 from contaminated surfaces is believed to be low, it remains important to practice good and frequent hand hygiene. Hand sanitizer dispensers are available throughout campus.

Colby-Sawyer College Facilities Management staff will continue to keep campus as clean as possible. Facilities Management uses cleaning practices in accordance with CDC guidelines

Facilities Management staff will change building air filters frequently. In addition, CSC community members are encouraged to open windows to increase ventilation when the weather permits.
