Position Summary

The Graphic Designer for the Office of Marketing and Communications oversees the design and production of all relevant print materials and website assets while working collaboratively with clients throughout the Colby-Sawyer College community.

This position has the option of working on-campus or having a remote working arrangement.

Responsibilities

Graphic Designer (Web/Print)
  • Oversees the design and production of all relevant print materials ensuring deadlines are met, product meets college standards and stays within budget
  • Designs logos, icons, infographics and illustrations using analog and digital media
  • Collaborates with editorial staff and design team on the production of the biannual college magazine
  • Manages the printing of all collateral produced within the Office of Marketing & Communications and communicates with various printing vendors
  • Works to support the design needs of departments across campus
  • Ability to follow brand guidelines and updates college visual style guide when necessary, as well as staying on top of current digital, marketing and visual trends within the design community
  • Design and creation of visual graphic elements for content and navigation
  • Work with departments across campus to organize and implement new content on website
  • Choose and/ or plan imaging for webpages, including color correction, sizing and file optimization
  • Collaborates on improvements to website’s physical layout and design, as well as updating and managing existing content on website
  • Collaborates on organizational structure and navigation of existing website content
  • Collaborates with developer and writer on planning and organization of new website sections and special projects
  • Evaluates department requests for meeting the college’s marketing strategy   
  • Delivers work with a high level of creative aesthetic while appealing to a broad audience
  • Manages and directs graphic designers, interns and freelance designers
Graphic Designer (Website-Specific)
  • Departmental CMS user and management and training
  • Oversite and management of departmental user webpages and assets
  • Project management of department managed web projects
  • Assist departmental users with web page updates, creation of new webpages, asset management, navigation and web-optimized images
  • Creation of new and updating of existing MarCom managed webpages and assets
  • Design and creation of visual graphic elements for content and navigation.
  • Work with departments across campus to organize and implement new content on website.
  • Choose and/ or plan imaging for webpages, including color correction, sizing and file optimization.
  • Delivers work with a high level of creative aesthetics while appealing to a broad audience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in graphic design or digital media
  • Solid foundation in typography, color theory, layout and design
  • Proven understanding and ability in pagination for print publication
  • Solid understanding of offset and digital printing processes, print management
  • Ability to multitask, shift gears quickly and manage multiple projects while
  • Ability to take direction and both partner and collaborate creatively and logically with colleagues and work autonomously
  • Basic writing and proofreading skills preferred
