All You Need is Love

Colby-Sawyer College offers a multitude of things to its students — a solid education, lifelong friendships, and a strong foundation to begin their adult lives. But for these three couples, CSC also gave them the gift of love.

Josh Mulready ’96 went to Husson University for his first year of college, but realizing the fit was not right, he continued to look throughout New England for a smaller setting. After visiting Colby-Sawyer, he immediately fell in love with the campus, community and support that he found here. But that was not all that he fell in love with.

Once he arrived on campus, he was immediately introduced to Kristin Sneider Mulready ’96, who was assigned to him as his orientation leader. Kristin said, “I was a terrible athlete, so leading orientation was the perfect way to get to campus a bit earlier than classes required. I met Josh and immediately tried to help him meet more juniors and seniors since he was a transfer student.”

Josh remembered, “Kristin was one of my orientation leaders, and she offered me a ride in her car back to campus from one of the off-site community building activities. I was going to take the bus back to school, but her offer was pretty nice, so I decided to ride back with her.”

It wasn’t long before Josh and Kristin started spending time together. Since it was the 90s, Kristin and Josh rollerbladed around New London on one of their first dates. Josh admitted, “Well, Kristin rollerbladed and I did something of a fall, get up, fall, get up activity that just happened to involve rollerblades strapped to my feet!”

Josh and Kristin both enjoyed their time at CSC and the closeness the college community offered. While here, Kristin played club softball, was an academic tutor and was a member of the Biology Majors Club and Alpha Chi Honor Society. Josh was a member of the baseball team for a bit, and he worked in the cafeteria and as a resident coordinator.

Josh and Kristin married in 1998 and have two sons (22 and 19), two dogs and a turtle. Kristin currently leads a portfolio, program and alliance management team at a biotech company developing cell plus gene therapies. Josh changed careers in 2016 after 20 years in the fitness field. He now manages a makerspace at the Carroll School, a middle school that specializes in teaching students with dyslexia. He said, “It has been a fun change of pace, and now I get to mix my interest/hobbies with teaching students how to laser cut/engrave, 3D print, solder and work with tools.”

In her spare time, Kristin enjoys running, hiking, biking, and gardening. Josh enjoys walking, biking, hiking, playing tennis, throwing a baseball now and then and tv/movies.

Kristin and Josh occasionally make it back to campus and have taken their sons to campus to introduce them to some of their favorites, including Bill and Carrie Thomas. They also were treated to a maple sugar tour at Nick Baer’s house. Kristin said, “Colby-Sawyer set the bar for our kids’ college expectations, and we are so thankful.”

Courtney Troxell Nolan ’15 and Matt Nolan ’16 both came to Colby-Sawyer to be part of the D1 ski team. Courtney said, “I chose CSC because I loved the small, picturesque campus and how most students lived on campus. I grew up in Utah, so going across the country for school was definitely scary. But the minute I stepped foot on campus, I knew it was for me.”

Courtney and Matt met through the ski team at fall dry land training during Matt’s freshman year. Their first date was star gazing in the field behind the Susan Colgate Cleveland Library. And after that, Courtney and Matt enjoyed lots and lots of skiing together, hiking, hanging out with friends and going to the Flying Goose.

They enjoyed their time at CSC and loved being part of the ski team. Courtney said, “It felt like we were family. We also loved playing intramural sports with friends and roommates. The campus was so small and you knew almost everyone, which made the community so much fun!”

Courtney and Matt were married in July 2020, and currently live Utah with their two-year old Goldendoodle, Winnie, who is training to be a therapy dog. Courtney currently works as a social worker at a junior high school and Matt serves as an operational specialist at Goldman Sachs. In their spare time, they enjoy skiing, biking, boating, golfing, camping and traveling.

Courtney and Matt try to make it back to campus every summer and hope to come to an Alumni Weekend in the next couple of years.

Katy Harris Wilson ’20 and Cody Wilson ’20

Their first love might have been skiing, but their passion for the sport brought them together long before they ever set foot on campus at CSC. Katy Harris Wilson ’20 and Cody Wilson ’20 met at a ski camp at just 12 years old. Katy said, “We met when we were 12 and had crushes on each other, so we had a ‘date.’ Then we saw each other at race series and talked a little.”

Dating was not an option for Katy and Cody because of their long distance. Katy was from Colorado and Cody was from California. Over the years, they would continue to see each other at ski events. Then in 2016, Katy and Cody were on the same ski team in Aspen, Colo., during their gap years between high school and college. It was then that the two decided to officially start dating.

When it was time to start looking at colleges, Cody knew he wanted to attend Colby-Sawyer. His brother, Kenny, was on the ski team and was enjoying CSC, so it made sense that Cody would follow in his footsteps. Katy thought it would be fun to go to school in the East for a new experience. She decided to come to CSC because she could race for the ski team and major in both exercise science and studio art.

While here, both Katy and Cody enjoyed their time on the alpine ski racing team. Katy worked as a personal trainer and supervisor at the gym. Cody was also involved with the golf club. They also enjoyed hiking, cooking, going to the gym and rock climbing together.

Katy and Cody enjoyed going out on dates around the area. Their favorite spots were the Pleasant Lake Inn, the Hopkinton Fair and the 3D archery range at Mount Sunapee. They also enjoyed going to Professor Nick Baer’s house for archery and to visit his sheep.

Katy and Cody’s senior year was cut short due to the pandemic. Katy said, “It was sad not to finish school with our classmates and finish off our adventure in the East, but we were able to go home to Colorado and start living our lives.”

In November 2021, Cody brought Katy skinning (skiing with skins on the bottom and a free heel so you can hike with skis on) at one of their favorite locations. Katy recalls, “Cody acted like we were taking a photo, which is very normal for us on hikes, but instead he got on one knee. He brought up champagne in his backpack to celebrate.”

Katy and Cody were married in December 2021 and live in Breckenridge, Colo. Katy is pursuing her doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Montana, Missoula and hopes to get a job in physical therapy and add animal therapy to her career. Cody is a firefighter at Eagle River Fire Department in Colorado. They hope to stay in the mountains of Colorado, buy a home, get a puppy and have an adventurous life by traveling, skiing, hiking and relaxing.
