Makenzie Welch ’18Registered Nurse

Makenzie Welch has known her entire life that she wanted to be a nurse. After graduating last year, Makenzie has followed that dream and is currently a registered nurse (RN) in the emergency department at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC).

Choosing Colby-Sawyer College was an easy choice for Makenzie because she really liked the small class sizes that were offered. CSC also offered her the opportunity to be part of the nursing program, and the swim team as well. She says, “I enjoyed being on the swim team and creating life-long friends through the nursing program.”

While at Colby-Sawyer, Makenzie found the college’s relationship with DHMC and the guidance from her professors to be extremely beneficial. She says, “Each professor cares about each student individually and helps each of us succeed in our specific goals.”

While studying at Colby-Sawyer, Makenzie also took part in the Student Nurses Association, Love Your Melon, went on the Costa Rica nursing trip, served as a student ambassador and an orientation leader and was a member of the Presidential Blue Key Society. She also took on an externship and practicum in the emergency department at DHMC. She says, “During this time, I was paired with a nurse to learn how to fully function as a bedside nurse in a department that I loved. This eventually led to my full-time job as an RN after graduation.”

Makenzie currently lives in Lebanon, NH and spends time doing her favorite hobbies which include traveling, hiking and spending time at the beach. She says she loves being a nurse and knows she makes an impact on people during some of the scariest times of their lives.
