Molly Clough ’22My CSC Story

Senior business administration student Molly Clough’s college story is not your typical one. Molly is from a small New Hampshire town called North Haverhill. Growing up, she envisioned herself on a pre-vet track at the University of New Hampshire. It seemed like the ideal college for her: a strong pre-vet program and not too far from her hometown. However, when she started her first year at UNH in the fall of 2018, she knew it was not a good fit from the start. Going from a high school with a total of 200 students to a math class with a total of 200 classmates was a culture shock. It was unreal how large a school it was and how small it made Molly feel. She found it difficult to establish connections with her professors. Molly said, “They refer to your student ID number on exams rather than your actual name.”

Once winter break arrived, Molly knew a change needed to be made. She started considering her options and never considered Colby-Sawyer until hearing from family friend Maggie Kinder ’19 about her experience. Molly said, “I heard it was a small, homey community.” That’s when she reached out to hometown friend Devyn Nelson ’22 asking for a tour. She recalls liking the small campus size and Devyn saying hi to many friendly faces on the tour. The tour sealed the deal, and Molly transferred to Colby-Sawyer in the fall of 2019.

With her passion for science in mind, Molly tried public health as her major but soon became undeclared, realizing that it was not her passion. She then took a few business classes and realized she enjoyed it and it gave her the right amount of challenge. Molly’s favorite part of Colby-Sawyer is the faculty and staff in the business department. She has formed relationships with her professors that know her on a personal level, and she appreciates all the help they give her. Molly’s college story might not have begun as a CSC story, but it will end as one.
