The 2014 Susan Colby Colgate Scholars' Symposium Celebrates Student Scholarship

The Colby-Sawyer College community will celebrate students' commitment to scholarship at the annual Susan Colby Colgate Scholars' Symposium. The annual symposium, featuring interdisciplinary Capstone projects and undergraduate presentations, will be held on Monday, April 21, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, April 22, starting at 8:30 a.m. at various locations on campus. The symposium and all related events are free and open to the public.

The symposium showcases senior students' culminating research projects in their majors, known as the Capstone project, in academic areas including: Athletic Training, Biology; Business Administration; Child Development; Child Development with Early Childhood Education; Creative Writing; English; Environmental Science; Environmental Studies; Exercise and Sport Sciences; Graphic Design; Health Care Management; Health Promotion; History and Political Studies; Media Studies; Multidisciplinary Studies; Nursing; Philosophy; Psychology; Public Health; Sociology; Studio Art and in the Wesson Honors Program.

Undergraduate students' presentations will also be featured at the event. These presentations, given by individuals and groups, allow students to demonstrate the depth and breadth of knowledge they have acquired during their years of study at Colby-Sawyer both in their academic major and across other disciplines.

Coinciding with the symposium, the Environmental Studies Expo features writer and urban farmer Tess Brown-Lavoie on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in Clements Hall at Ivey Science Center. A first-generation farmer, Brown-Lavoie will present “Five Year Lease: New Farmers and Agrarian Commitment” detailing the transformation of a vacant 5,000-square-foot lot in Providence, R.I., to Sidewalk Ends Farm — a hub of food production, beauty and community education.

A full-listing of symposium presentations, times and locations is available here.
