Colby-Sawyer Comes Alive With Gospel Celebration

The Colby-Sawyer College gospel choir, Voices of CSC, will present its spring ensemble “Celebration of Gospel: Remembering the Past, Embracing the Present” on Sunday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in Wheeler Hall at the Ware Student Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of director Jeramey Winfield '13, the campus comes alive with the spirited sounds of traditional and new-age gospel including Grammy-winning hits from contemporary gospel artists and tributes to genre legends. The performance also features special guest performances from the Chicago and Boston gospel scenes and incorporates music, poetry and dance in a unified celebration.

“We envision a night were we look back and celebrate from whence we have come in gospel music, the road we have taken and the shoulders of gospel legends we stand on and presently, embrace the 'newness' of gospel music, and where it is headed,” says Winfield. “We are celebrating a rich heritage of gospel music from both then and now.”

The Voices of CSC was founded in 2009 at a Christian Fellowship Family Worship Service when a group of Colby-Sawyer students realized the presence of gospel music would benefit the campus and surrounding community. Winfield recruited and trained singers and emerged as the founding director of the choir.

Members of the community interested in getting involved with the Voices of CSC are invited to contact Winfield. Open positions include an artistic concert narrator, stage management assistants and greeters.
