Colby-Sawyer College and University of New Haven Announce Affiliation Agreement for Sport Management Majors

Colby-Sawyer College and University of New Haven in West Haven, Conn., have signed an agreement that guarantees qualified Colby-Sawyer sport management majors acceptance to University of New Haven to continue their studies at the graduate level.

Colby-Sawyer graduates who have a GPA over 3.4 and GRE or GMAT score over the 60th percentile will automatically be accepted into the University of New Haven graduate degree programs in sports management. First come, first awarded scholarships are available to Colby-Sawyer graduates. University of New Haven's sports management program, available in residence and online, is ranked as the fourth best business-based program in the nation and 13th best internationally.

The three-year agreement, signed by Colby-Sawyer College President Thomas C. Galligan Jr. and Dean of the College of Business and Professor of Management at University of New Haven Dr. Elizabeth B. Davis, formalizes an academic collaboration that both institutions hope will promote intellectual exchanges and growth between students, faculty members and administrators at the two schools.

“This agreement establishes a relationship whereby our most highly qualified students interested in continuing their education in sport management at the graduate level will be able to do so seamlessly and with scholarship opportunities at the University of New Haven,” said Colby-Sawyer Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty Deborah Taylor. “It also establishes a basis for our faculty to engage in discipline-specific conversations and planning about curriculum and pedagogy with faculty engaged in the same field at other institutions.”

Colby-Sawyer also has affiliation agreements to assist qualified baccalaureate degree graduates from Colby-Sawyer College in gaining admission into the graduate programs at Plymouth State University (N.H.) and Springfield College (Mass.).

“The University of New Haven is a wonderful new affiliation for Colby-Sawyer. This and similar partnerships will benefit our students and build additional pathways to their success,” said Colby-Sawyer President Thomas C. Galligan Jr.

About Colby-Sawyer College and the B.S. in Sport Management
Founded in 1837, Colby-Sawyer is a private, independent, undergraduate college offering educational programs based in the liberal arts and sciences and designed to prepare its 1,400 students for their professions and lives of ongoing learning.

Colby-Sawyer's Sport Management major integrates the study of sport and business with practical experience. The curriculum is guided by the standards of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education and the North American Society for Sport Management.

Students may choose from four concentrations: sport business, sport information and media, sport studies and sport and recreation. With a 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio, students learn in small classes from professors whose passion is teaching. Every student completes an internship before graduating, and about one-third of those internships become graduates' first jobs. Six months after graduating, 94 percent of the Class of 2013 reported being either employed or enrolled in graduate school.

The University of New Haven was founded in 1920 and combines a liberal arts education with real-world, hands-on career and research opportunities. The University enrolls approximately 6,400 students, including nearly 1,800 graduate students.

Based in The College of Business, the 36-credit M.S. in Management of Sports Industries is focused on cultivating and training industry leaders through completion of a sequence of interdisciplinary business and sports management core courses. Students may choose a concentration in Collegiate Athletic Administration or Facility Management.
