Founder and Author of 'Ten Ways to Change the World in Your Twenties' To Speak at Colby-Sawyer College

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Colby-Sawyer College will host Libuse Binder, founder of the organization Ten Ways to Change the World in Your Twenties and author of the like-titled book, on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in Wheeler Hall at the Ware Campus Center.

Binder will discuss the roadmap she has designed for young people to make a difference in their world, offering advice on everything from reducing waste to finding socially conscious and meaningful, rewarding careers. Both Binder's organization and her book, which will be published on Nov. 1, 2009, are dedicated to preparing young adults to be active participants in a changing world through engaging in their political, social, and environmental responsibilities. She recognizes that both this generation of young people and the next will face significant social problems on a local and global level, and offers simple suggestions and strategies for tackling these issues.

With previous work published in Earth 911, Fit Yoga, and Worldchanging and her own blog, Weekly Way, Binder pens Ten Ways to Change the World in Your Twenties as an author experienced in conveying ideas on sustainability, lifestyle changes and consumer consciousness. Strategies for achieving these goals are discussed in easy-to-read chapters in the book such as “Ways to Have Your Voice Be Heard,” “Ways to Travel and Live Lightly All Over the Earth” and “Ways to Eat What You Want Without Eating THAT!” Each chapter contains compelling and true stories about individuals who are already making a positive difference in the world, as well as new research and proven strategies that are delivered with new, innovative twists.

Author Bill McKibben praises the social relevance of Ten Ways to Change the World in Your Twenties on 350.org, stating, “Everywhere I go around the planet, I find young people, fresh from college, leading the new green movement. With savvy and heart, they're making a real difference—and as this book shows, you can too!”

Through Ten Ways to Change the World in Your Twenties, Binder encourages activists from all over the world to come together and share their ideas on how to bring about change. She seeks to tap into the potential of young people by encouraging them to believe in and draw on their own unique experiences and strengths. Binder plans to help Colby-Sawyer students discover ways they can start changing the world, starting with making simple changes in their lives on campus. Discussion will also recognize the college's recent campus-wide environmental initiatives, inviting community members to share their opinions and ideas on move the institution toward climate neutrality and environmental sustainability.

Binder truly believes in the ideas she promotes and lives them out in her daily life by driving a fuel-efficient vehicle, buying low-impact groceries, and constantly looking for new ways to be a socially and environmentally conscious consumer. She strives to be a living example of what young people are capable of doing, regardless of budget or resources. Through promoting her simple yet powerful strategies, she hopes to inspire young people, both individually and collectively, to be the change they want to see in the world.
