Colby-Sawyer College to Feature 'Chuck Gibson Design: 20 Projects' Exhibition

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Colby-Sawyer College will exhibit “Chuck Gibson Design: 20 Projects,” which features the work of an award-winning Hanover, N.H.-based artist who seeks connections between traditional graphic design and the three-dimensional forms of environmental graphic design. The exhibition will continue until Jan. 15 and admission is free.

Chuck Gibson is the founder of Chuck Gibson Design and a former adjunct professor at Colby-Sawyer College. In addition to his previous position with the college, he has also offered graphic design internships to Colby-Sawyer students in past years. Gibson's work has been exhibited at venues such as Smith College, Dartmouth College's Hopkins Center, and the University of Oxford in Oxford, England.

“20 Projects” is a selection of Gibson's diverse work in communications and way-finding solutions created for clients in fields such as community development, healthcare, education and landscape architecture. In addition to these varied works, “20 Projects” will also feature award-winning highlights of a logo Gibson co-created with a multi-disciplinary team for The Electric Vehicle and the American Community, a National Planning and Design Competition.

“20 Projects” reflects collaboration with architects, landscape architects, urban planners, engineers, writers, photographers, and other environmental graphic designers that Chuck Gibson Design thrives upon for the creation of innovative work. “Design is an art that must satisfy client needs while making a positive contribution to the build and natural environments and to culture as a whole,” Gibson explains in his designer's statement. “Good design results from good problem-solving. The solution, rather than imposing itself stylistically from the outside grows organically from the inside outward through the analysis of the problem.”

Gibson thrives on the synergy of collaborations with architects, landscape architects, urban planners, engineers, writers, photographers and other environmental graphic designers. “I seek to uncover connections between traditionally defined graphic design and the three-dimensional physicality of environmental graphic design.”
