Colby-Sawyer College Welcomes New Leaders, Faculty Members
NEW LONDON, N.H., May 1, 2007 – Colby-Sawyer College will welcome a new academic dean and a new chair of the Nursing Department, as well as accomplished faculty members in the Exercise and Sports Sciences, Fine and Performing Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Nursing, and Social Sciences and Education Departments.
Elizabeth Crockford, who joined the college's Business Administration Department in 2002 as an associate professor, has been promoted to the position of academic dean. Professor Crockford holds a Ph.D. in organization and management from Capella University and has served as chair of the Business Administration Department since 2005.
Susan Reeves joins the college as assistant professor and chair of the Nursing Department. Professor Reeves graduated from Colby-Sawyer in 1988 and holds a M.S. degree in nursing administration from the University of New Hampshire. A current administrator at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, she is also enrolled in the D. Ed. program at the University of Vermont, with a concentration in educational leadership and policy studies.
The Nursing Department will also welcome new faculty members Mary Shea and Sean Lyon. Professor Shea, who joins the college as assistant professor with a clinical specialty in pediatrics, holds a M.S.N. from the University of Pennsylvania and is completing her doctoral studies at the University of Maine at Orono. She has gained teaching experience at Husson College in Bangor, Maine, the University of Maine at Orono and Boston University.
Lyon joins the nursing faculty as a visiting assistant professor. He holds a M.S.N. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and previously served as a grant writer and family nurse practitioner at New London Hospital.
In the Fine and Performing Arts Department, Rebekah Tolley, who has been on the faculty and served as gallery director for two years at Colby-Sawyer, will become assistant professor of printmaking and director of the Marian Graves Mugar Art Gallery. Professor Tolley holds an M.F.A. from Temple University and was previously a visiting lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Additionally, Brandy Gibbs-Riley will join the department as assistant professor of graphic design. Professor Gibbs-Riley, a faculty member at Chester College of New England and guest critic at Boston University's College of Fine Arts, holds an M.F.A. from Boston University.
Andrew Cahoon, a teaching fellow and graduate research assistant at Yale University, has been hired as assistant professor in the Natural Sciences Department, teaching courses in physical sciences. Professor Cahoon holds a M.S. degree in physics from Yale University.
An adjunct professor at New York University and Colby-Sawyer, Aaron Major joins the college as assistant professor of sociology in the Social Sciences and Education Department. Professor Major holds a M.A. from New York University, where he is also pursuing a doctoral degree.
David Reed will join the Humanities Department's Communication Studies Program as assistant professor in film and video. Professor Reed taught most recently at the Maryland Institute of the Arts and has been a visiting fellow a Yerevan State University in Yerevan, Armenia, and an adjunct faculty member at UCLA. He has also gained experience as a freelance photojournalist in Berlin, Prague and Moscow. Professor Reed earned an M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts.
Stacey Watts will join the Exercise and Sport Sciences Department as assistant professor, teaching courses in sport management. Professor Watts, who earned a M.Ed. from Springfield College, was previously the associate director of athletics at Mount Holyoke College.
Amber Landis will also join the Exercise and Sport Sciencecs Department as assistant athletic trainer. Professor Landis is a Certified Athletic Trainer who holds a B.S. in biokinetics with a concentration in athletic training from Eastern University in St. Davids, Penn., and a Master of Science degree in Education with an emphasis in athletic training at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Her post-graduate work has been focused on the care and injury prevention and rehabilitation of the Division I Women's Basketball Team at Old Dominion University. She was also a clinical instructor in the Post Professional Athletic Training program.
