Colby-Sawyer College Hosts the 2013 N.H. Clothesline Project to Raise Awareness of Violence and Sexual Abuse

Colby-Sawyer College will host the New Hampshire Clothesline Project – a display of T-shirts with written messages and illustrations that demonstrate the impact of sexual, domestic and mental abuse – for the 17th consecutive year.

The event, sponsored by Colby-Sawyer's Department of Campus Safety, AmeriCorps And the S.A.V.E. committee (Sexual Assault and Violence Education), will be held in the Mercer Hall gymnasium on Wednesday, April 24, through Saturday, April 27. The project will be open for viewing to all college and community members, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. read more…

CSC Singers Present Spring Concert 'Totally American Music'

The Colby-Sawyer Singers will present “Totally American Music” for its annual spring concert. The singing ensemble, comprised of Colby-Sawyer students and community members, will take the audience on a journey through American music that begins with the Civil War era and ends with a flashy Michael Jackson medley.

The show will take place Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center Theatre. Tickets are $5 general admission and free with a Colby-Sawyer ID. Students Play Key Role in Celebration of Colby-Sawyer's Student Center

Hors d'oeuvres and high spirits circulated among the Colby-Sawyer College community, alumni and local residents on March 5 as they celebrated the grand reopening of the Ware Student Center. The event, organized by students enrolled in the college's Event Management course, commemorated the building's $7 million renovation and expansion, which began in May 2012.

The celebration kicked off with speeches delivered by Colby-Sawyer President Tom Galligan, Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students Dave Sauerwein, and Sodexo Dining Services General Manager Mike Heffernan. President Galligan thanked the many people involved in the center's transformation and called on the community to invigorate the new space with their ideas and energy. read more…

2013 Susan Colby Colgate Scholars Symposium to Celebrate Student Scholarship

The Colby-Sawyer College community will celebrate students' commitment to scholarship at the annual Susan Colby Colgate Scholars Symposium. The annual symposium, which features interdisciplinary Capstone projects and undergraduate presentations will be held on Tuesday, April 23, starting at 8:30 a.m. at various locations on campus.

The symposium showcases senior students' culminating research projects in their majors, known as Capstone, in academic areas including: media studies; exercise and sport sciences; sports management; health care management; health promotion; history and political studies; nursing; public health; environmental studies; environmental science; philosophy; sociology; fine and performing arts; art history; biology; business administration; English; creative writing; child development and education; psychology; multidisciplinary studies; and in the Wesson Honors Program. read more…

Colby-Sawyer College to Host Spring Dance Ensemble, 'Classics to Contemporary'

Colby-Sawyer's Fine and Performing Arts Department and the Colby-Sawyer Dance Club present the spring dance ensemble “Classics to Contemporary,” a showcase of dance that features two shows sharing the stage.

“Classics to Contemporary” will take place Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center Theatre. Colby-Sawyer Student Victoria Hersey Presents 'Love and Lettuce,' A Surprising Story of Love and Suspicion

“Love and Lettuce,” a video/theater production about love, suspicion and surprise, will be presented by Colby-Sawyer media studies student and writer/director Victoria Hersey, along with a cast and crew of students and members of Sunapee Kearsarge Intercommunity Theater (SKIT).

“Love and Lettuce” will be performed on Tuesday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in Whipple Town Hall in New London. Admission is free. read more…

The Creative Writing Program To Graduate Its First Students

Colby-Sawyer College will celebrate the graduation of its first class of Creative Writing majors, when three members of the Class of 2013 cross the stage to receive their Bachelor of the Arts degrees at Commencement on May 11.

The program's origins began in 2007, when the topic of introducing new majors to the curriculum was under discussion. Faculty, staff and students were asked to consider what kinds of programs would best benefit the school.

“A number of the departments and faculty groups came forward with a number of different proposals,” says Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty Deborah Taylor. “The Creative Writing major was one that emerged from those discussions.” read more…

Colby-Sawyer College's Environmental Studies Expo Hosts 'Rebuilding the Foodshed: Remapping Our Expectations for the Food We Share'

Colby-Sawyer College will host the Environmental Studies Expo and a presentation by Philip Ackerman-Leist, author of Rebuilding the Foodshed: Remapping Our Expectations for the Food We Share. A writer, farmer and professor of environmental studies at Green Mountain College, Ackerman-Leist explores strategies for reshaping local and regional food systems.

Ackerman-Leist will present his book, research and philosophies on Tuesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in Clements Hall at the Curtis L. Ivey Science Center. The event is sponsored by the Environmental Studies Department. The public is invited to attend and admission is free. read more…

Lauren Cornish '15 Connects with New Hampshire Leaders at Workshop

Busy with her commitments to sports, campus organizations, volunteerism and schoolwork, Business Administration student Lauren Cornish '15 can barely fit anything else into her packed schedule. Despite this, Cornish managed to find the time this semester to attend Leadership New Hampshire's two-day workshop in Manchester, Leadership College, where she learned of the Granite State's career opportunities.

In creating Leadership College, former Governor John Lynch hoped to retain graduates as new workers in New Hampshire by establishing mentor relationships and building a network among the state's student leaders. Now in its second year, the program invited 27 students from 16 New Hampshire colleges and universities to meet and network with many of the state's elected officials, business leaders and career counselors. read more…

Colby-Sawyer College Students Put Twist on Timeless Tale of Androcles and the Lion

The Colby Sawyer College Fine and Performing Arts Department presents George Bernard Shaw's 1912 play “Androcles and the Lion,” a morality folktale of a Roman slave who finds a friend in a merciful lion after removing a painful thorn from its paw.

Performances will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 4, 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center Theatre. There will also be a special matinee at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and children, and free with a Colby-Sawyer ID. read more…

The Kearsarge Valley Transition Initiative Task Force and Colby-Sawyer College's Environmental Science and Environmental Studies students will host “Kearsarge Valley Going Local: Local Food, Local Business, Local Skills” with a presentation by certified transition trainer Tina Clarke on localized solutions to the global issues of economic insecurity, environmental instabilities and dependence on non-renewable energy.

Colby-Sawyer College Reaches for the Sun with Solar Array

NEW LONDON, N.H., Nov. 29, 2012 – Colby-Sawyer College has partnered with Exeter, N.H.-based ReVision Energy to build one of the largest solar photovoltaic arrays in New Hampshire. A solar photovoltaic array is composed of a series of panels that use the sun's abundant energy to create electricity. A total of 517 solar photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roofs of four campus buildings: Windy Hill School, Curtis L. Ivey Science Center, Lawson Hall and Lethbridge Lodge. read more…
