Colby-Sawyer's Sustainability Efforts in the Dining Hall Highlighted in 'Setting the Table Green,' a Student Poster Exhibit

Colby-Sawyer College will present Setting the Table Green, a graphic design exhibition showcasing Colby-Sawyer's ongoing commitment to sustainability and the community when it comes to food and the business of food. The posters will be unveiled in an opening reception at 5 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22, in the dining hall at Ware Student Center. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be offered. This event is free and open to the public.

Nine Colby-Sawyer graphic design students in Adjunct Assistant Professor Douglas Harp's graphic design class teamed up with three creative writing and media studies majors to create the posters that comprise Setting the Table Green and illustrate Colby-Sawyer College's forward thinking and continuing acts of sustainability.

Poster subjects include the college's student-initiated commitment to providing local food options; using fry oil as bio fuel; the Feed the Freezer food-recovery program, which donates surplus meals to local food pantries; Colby-Sawyer's commitment to minimizing waste by using compostable or recyclable goods; and Sodexo's responsible use of the chemicals necessary to run a clean and healthy dining operation.

“These posters will present our actions toward a 100 percent sustainable future with student voice and vision,” said General Manager of Sodexo Dining Services at Colby-Sawyer Mike Heffernan. “I am hopeful for Colby-Sawyer's environmental future because we have students who ask questions and really care.”
