College Hosts Political Forums for Community

NEW LONDON, N.H., Sept. 17, 2007 — Colby-Sawyer College will host two political events related to the 2008 national elections, a visit from Elizabeth Edwards on Saturday, Sept. 22, and a Meet the 2008 Democratic Candidates event on Sunday, Sept. 23.

The events are co-hosted by the New London Democratic Committee. Admission is free for both events, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards, will visit campus to talk about her husband's bid for the nation's highest political office and answer questions from college and community members. Her visit will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 10:45 a.m. at Pierce Park on the College Quad.

In case of bad weather, the event will move to the Alumni Lounge in Ware Campus Center.

The college will also present a Meet the 2008 Democratic Candidates event on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Wheeler Hall at the Ware Campus Center. U.S. Congressman Paul Hodes will host a forum for the Democratic candidates vying for New Hampshire's U.S. Senate seat now held by John E. Sununu, and for Democratic candidates, and representatives of candidates, running for the U.S. presidency. The college will provide a forum for the candidates to speak as well as answer questions and meet with those in attendance.

U.S. Senate candidates Katrina Swett and Jay Buckey have confirmed their attendance. All the Democratic candidates for the U.S. presidency have also been invited, and many of their representatives plan to attend.
