Colby-Sawyer’s first-ever W. Dale and JoAnn Franke Overfield ’69 Art + Design Faculty Exhibition will commence with an opening reception on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the William H. and Sonja Carlson Davidow ’56 Fine Art Gallery located in the Davidow Center for Art + Design.

Artist Nancy Sepe's multimedia work.

The exhibition is named in honor of avid Colby-Sawyer supporters W. Dale and JoAnn Franke Overfield ’69, and will feature work created by studio art and design faculty within the School of Arts & Sciences. Work on display, created by 10 talented faculty-artists, will include ceramics, drawings, graphic design, mixed media, paintings, photography, multimedia and sculptures. The exhibition will run through Saturday, March 7, 2020, during normal gallery hours, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We in the School of Arts & Sciences are so grateful to be able to recognize the many years of support the Overfield family has shown Colby-Sawyer by naming this exhibition of faculty artwork in their honor,” said Davidow Art Gallery Director and School of Arts & Sciences Professor Jon Keenan. “We’re also extremely pleased to be able to showcase the work of our studio art faculty whose talents go far beyond simply inspiring students in the classroom.”

In addition to exhibits located within the William H. and Sonja Carlson Davidow ’56 Fine Art Gallery, works by Professor Loretta Barnett as well as two alumni will be on display across campus in the Marian Graves Mugar Art Gallery located in the Sawyer Fine Arts Center. Both artists — Diane J. Stendahl ’80 and Jesse Lane ’00 — will show personal mixed media work, as well as works made in collaboration with Barnett and one another. A guided-gallery stroll between locations will be held as a part of the Nov. 7 opening reception. Following the reception, a screening of a documentary detailing the collaboration between Barnett, Stendahl and Lane will be held in the John F. and Heidi Grey Niblack ’68 Black Box Theater back at the Davidow Center for Art + Design. The film, by Victoria Hersey ’13, will begin at 7 p.m.

Future exhibitions of faculty work will continue to be named in honor of the Overfields in recognition of their love of, and support for, the arts, and in appreciation of JoAnn’s service to Colby-Sawyer as a member of the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Association Board of Directors and work on the Arts Center Steering Committee.
