Colby-Sawyer College received financial gifts from a record number of donors during its fourth annual Day of Giving on March 7, raising more than $350,000 to support experiential learning opportunities, scholarships, athletic programs and faculty initiatives.

The college surpassed its goal of 1,337 donors during the 24-hour event, with 1,373 individuals — the most in the event’s four-year history — making contributions to the Colby-Sawyer Fund. Those who donated included students, alumni, faculty, staff, families and members of the Board of Trustees, as well as longtime friends and supporters of the college.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make yesterday’s Day of Giving such an amazing success,” Colby-Sawyer President Susan D. Stuebner said. “The support of each of the 1,373 individuals who made gifts to the college will have a major impact on our students’ experience, from the classroom to the playing field and beyond. The Colby-Sawyer community has always been generous in supporting our students and yesterday was a perfect example.”

Milestones met throughout the day unlocked $95,000 in challenge grants that eventually brought the day’s final fundraising total to $358,082. These gifts —$10,000 from former trustee Robin Mead ’72 at 500 donors, $35,000 from current trustee Sally Shaw Veitch at 1,000 donors and $50,000 from William and Sonja Carlson Davidow ’56 at 1,373 donors — helped maximize the impact of every donation.

The celebration was evident on campus as well despite the day’s chilly temperatures and light rainfall, with vendors distributing popcorn, smoothies and expresso drinks in recognition of the event. The Office of College Advancement also hosted an Alumni Kick-off Event for members of the Class of 2022 set to graduate in May. Those in attendance at the Sawyer Fine Arts Center received a free gift and enjoyed appetizers, drinks, music and raffles.

“Yesterday was a wonderful example of the power of the Colby-Sawyer community,” Vice President for College Advancement Daniel Parish said. “So many students, alumni, faculty, staff, family members and friends came together to show their love for the college and to support our most important priorities. We are grateful to everyone who helped make this our most successful Day of Giving ever.”
