Ashley Humphreys ’22 Continues to Achieve

As a student, Ashley Humphreys ’22 was an achiever. As a graduate, she continues to achieve.

The Lyndeborough, New Hampshire, native graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a pre-veterinary track and minors in chemistry and studio art. While at Colby-Sawyer, she was a member of the Division I women’s alpine ski team, the Student Athletic Association Committee and the Campus Activities Board. The summer before her senior year, Ashley completed an internship at the Ponemah Veterinary Hospital in Amherst, New Hampshire, where she said she gained valuable experience and insight.

“The internship that I had while attending CSC has provided me with connections within the veterinary field,” Ashley said. “After the internship, my passion for reproductive medicine and the need to voice my concerns for the standards of breeding made me want to become a reproductive specialist.”

Ashley will take the next step toward that goal in August, when she starts a four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at St. George’s University.

She has used the intervening year well. In May 2022, she accepted a position as an animal technician at the Weare Animal Hospital in Weare, New Hampshire.

“Weare Animal Hospital services dogs, cats and exotics (small mammalian, avian, reptiles/amphibian),” Ashley said. “This position introduced me to the beginning of becoming a veterinary nurse. I started with nurse appointments then transitioned to assisting doctors with their appointments.”

While working full time as an animal technician, Ashley also enrolled in the Master of Public Health program at Southern New Hampshire University. In April 2023, while still enrolled at SNHU, she changed jobs and accepted an ICU/emergency veterinary nurse position at the Animal Medical Center of New England in Nashua, New Hampshire.

“This position allows me to see more complex cases and learn more about long-term care of recovering patients,” Ashley said. “When I am in the ICU, I am caring for post-operative patients and those who are in critical condition. When I am (in the) ER, I help with outpatient care of various cases.”

In addition to doing full-time work and graduate study, Ashley continues to ski competitively. In January, she represented Team USA at the FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, New York, competing in the super-G and alpine skiing combined events at Whiteface Mountain.

The most recent outcomes report from the Harrington Center for Experiential Learning indicates that, like Ashley, 100% of the Class of 2022 is employed or in graduate school. Read more about Colby-Sawyer graduate outcomes.
