Colby-Sawyer Mourns Melissa Molin '16

On April 4, Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students David Sauerwein shared with the college community news that a member of our Colby-Sawyer family, Melissa Molin ’16, passed away that evening due to injuries sustained in a single-car accident.

The college community extends our deepest sympathies to Melissa’s family and many friends as they try to come to terms with this devastating loss.

Melissa was a psychology major working to realize her dreams of becoming a counselor, and she was a member of the swimming and diving team.

Counselors were available Tuesday, April 5, for students, faculty and staff. The college’s flag has been lowered to half-staff.

The accident occurred at mile marker 24.8 in the northbound lane on I-89 in Sutton yesterday afternoon. There were no passengers with Melissa. State Police ask anyone with information regarding the accident to contact Trooper Michael Catalfamo at 603-223-4381

Visiting hours will be held Friday, April 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at 301 Country Club Road in Avon, Conn.

The funeral will be held the next day, Saturday, April 9, at West Hartford United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. The church is located at 1358 New Britain Avenue in West Hartford, Conn.
