Message from Leadership

Here and across the country, we are facing a critical shortage of healthcare workers at every level. The workforce shortage has only been intensified by the COVID-19 crisis: according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 400,000 healthcare workers have left since the start of the pandemic.

Add to this a wave of 70 million aging baby boomers that is about to flood the American healthcare system. Doctors, technicians, and an estimated 270,000 new registered nurses will be needed to help care for them.

Colby-Sawyer is uniquely positioned to address this need. For more than 40 years, Colby-Sawyer’s nursing program has been preparing leaders in nursing and health sciences through a tradition of excellence. Delivered in partnership with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health, Colby-Sawyer’s programs give students clinical experience working side by side with professionals at one of the nation’s leading academic hospitals, and provide academic preparation in one of the state’s most distinctive, top-performing undergraduate nursing programs.

Colby-Sawyer and Dartmouth-Hitchcock launched this five-year project to expand the School of Nursing & Health Sciences. With a $3.25 million investment from Dartmouth-Hitchcock, combined with support from donors and friends, we will increase enrollment in the undergraduate nursing program, add new degree programs at all levels, and build a new center for clinical and academic excellence at the heart of Colby-Sawyer’s campus.

Please join us as we address this important challenge.

Sincerely,
