Peter White, Ph.D.

Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing & Health Sciences

Peter White is dean for the School of Nursing & Health Sciences, director of liberal education and professor of biology. He earned a BS from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth and a PhD in cellular and molecular biology from Indiana State University before joining the Colby-Sawyer faculty in 2001. He was named the Sonja C. and William H. Davidow Endowed Chair in 2021.

White’s teaching interests include physiology, cell biology and molecular biology. His research has explored the cellular and molecular events which characterize acute renal (kidney) failure. His current research interests focus on the integration of the liberal arts and STEM education. He is the principal investigator of a National Science Foundation Scholarship Grant Award that supports STEM education for academically talented students in biology. In his tenure at the college, White has served on the Strategic Planning Committee, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and the Senior Leadership Team.
