How Do You Show Your Gratitude?

Thanksgiving is a time to take a step back to reflect on what we have and what we’re thankful for. Things we tend to stress over don’t feel as big, and we realize it’s the little things that mean the most. The common question asked in November is “What are we thankful for?” Instead, I asked students around Colby-Sawyer how they show their gratitude.

Some students expressed how vocalizing has been their way to show gratitude. “I’m not the best at expressing how I feel, but I always try to say a thank you and let others know that I’m appreciative,” shared Kara Fortier ’22.

Cohl Schusler ’24 shared, “I usually remind myself what I have is special and I tell my family and friends every so often how much they mean to me.”

On the other hand, acts of gratitude are a way that some students share their gratitude. “I always want to make sure people know I’m thankful for them and what they do for me,” Molly Clough ’22 explained. “I tend to show my gratitude by not only telling my loved ones that I appreciate what they do for me, but also paying it forward.”

Kennedy Moore ’22 says she shows her gratitude by “thanking people for all that they do for me and by doing small acts of kindness to show that I am grateful for and care about them.”

No matter what you’re thankful for this November, expressing gratitude allows us to take the time to appreciate what we may take for granted around us. Whichever way you choose to show gratitude, take the time to express it.
