We are all born with an innate desire to express ourselves — some of us do it best with graphite, charcoal and ink. Select the drawing concentration and bring the pages of your sketchbook alive with your creative energy.
Drawings, sketches and illustrations are narratives. They are rich, dynamic compositions and surfaces that amuse the eye and communicate highly technical information. Colby-Sawyer’s drawing program helps you discover your artistic style as you create visually expressive works through studio practice, research and application of your personal goals. Beginning students sample a number of drawing subjects and genres, while upper-level students work in series investigations, create inventive exhibition formats and experiment with a myriad of materials and methods.
Learn from professors who are also award-winning illustrators, multimedia artists, animators and sketch artists who have received numerous grants and fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Hampshire Council on the Arts.
The Gladys Greenbaum Meyers Juried Student Art Exhibition, the college's largest art annual exhibition, draws an impressive audience from the college community and the general public. The honor of being selected to show in the juried exhibition adds esteem and value to your academic accomplishments and your professional portfolio. In addition to awards for Best in Show, outstanding artists are also selected for scholarships and commissioned pieces.
The annual Senior Art Exhibition showcases the best work of all graduating art majors. The exhibition demonstrates the growth, skill and professionalism developed while studying at Colby-Sawyer. Awards are presented to artists whose works best reflect diversity of media, techniques, influences and experiences.
