Emergency Guidelines

Extensive plans directing the College's response to threat of severe weather, fire on campus, chemical spill, exposure to hazardous material, bomb threat or any other threats to the campus community have been developed. Should the need arise; the College is ready to respond.

In the event of an emergency on campus the Colby-Sawyer College Emergency Management Plan has established a line of communication, and an Emergency Management Team (EMT) that will ascertain the scope of the incident and advise the College President. The Emergency Management Team with the assistance of the Incident Response Team, will analyze conditions throughout campus, establish response strategies, deploy resources, and initiate the emergency process.

Colby-Sawyer College personnel and equipment will be utilized to accomplish the following priorities:

  • Protect Human Life
  • Support Health and Safety Services
  • Protect College Assets
  • Maintenance of College Services
  • Assess Damage
  • Restore General Campus Operations

The Emergency Management Team will mobilize at a central Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located on campus, and at the selection of the College Incident Commander. In the event of an emergency the EMT will set up a base of communications with other campus first responders (Campus Safety, Facilities) via the campus portable radio communication system. The EMT will gather information from and disseminate emergency bulletins and announcements to the College community via e-mail, voicemail and postings.

Separate emergency unit plans should be developed in each academic/administrative area. These documents should outline strategies to protect department personnel, programs, and should be coordinated with the campus Emergency Management Plan using the “Special Unit Plan” template available from Campus Safety.

The Emergency Management Plan Coordinator will review the Plan regularly and make appropriate changes as they become necessary.
