Applied Exercise Science Track

The Applied Exercise Science track is ideal for candidates focused on promoting wellness and reducing the burden of chronic disease in diverse populations.

In the Applied Exercise Science track, students will complete advanced coursework related to exercise physiology, nutrition, chronic disease prevention, psychology and health coaching. This track prepares students interested in pursuing careers in clinical exercise physiology, exercise science and biomechanical research, cardiac and stroke rehabilitation, health and behavior coaching and community public health. Additionally, this track prepares students who wish to continue their education in pursuit of a doctoral degree after the completion of the master’s degree.

Program at a glance:
  • Prepare for the following careers as an exercise physiologist:
    • Clinical staff in cardiology, pulmonology, weight and wellness to name a few
    • Wellness staff in corporate and medical settings
  • Full-Time option: 9-month program, 4 courses each in fall and spring terms
  • Part-Time option: 2 years with two courses per semester

The Colby-Sawyer Exercise Science program is recognized by the NSCA Education Recognition Program (ERP) for their Personal Training and Undergraduate Strength and Conditioning programs, making Colby-Sawyer the only program in New England with both designations.

The Personal Training Program designation recognizes programs with standardized, approved personal training curricula that is designed to prepare students for the NSCA-CPT® and the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certifications.
